My sincere and deepest sympathy to all of Fr Joe's family, and to his Marist confreres. I have been blessed to have known Fr Joe through many years in L'Arche Cork, and through the grace of friendship continuing since. I will miss him, and though I don't know you his family and confreres, this shared loss gathers us now in communion ... something I feel sure that Fr Joe will delight in, now in the eternal embrace of the God he loved and shared with so many.
Like the words of a hymn from Japan that Fr Joe taught us in L'Arche, along with beautiful actions ... Mii yo kyodai ga, tomo nii suwatte iru, nanto yu megumii, nanto yu yorokobi .... how good and pleasant it is when God's people live together in unity (psalm 133)
Ar dheis De go raibh a anam dilis.

Such a humble, spiritual, gentle man who was so full of life and interested in everyone he came across. Also a man for whom justice really mattered and who challenged those who had the power to make changes. I loved his mischievous smile and twinkly eyes. Always authentic, always welcoming... a Christian in every sense ❤
We dubbed you our 'Holy Loiterer', Joe, and your job was to loiter around the community, present and available to anyone who might be needing 'someone' at any moment. You were 'the someone' to so many of us needed and you had a knack of being there at the perfect time.Thank you beloved friend.
Your nourished us with your love, your stories, your spacious listening, your Japanese wisdom and of course your famous Tirimabaileys!
You blessed many Joe and you will be missed by many. L'Arche Belfast is all the richer for you being in our roots.
