We will always have wonderful memories of you Leo. You would question what good things have you done ? Are you happy with what you’re doing . Give and it will come back 10 fold you would say . when we were young , it was so exciting when you would bring home from Africa these amazing canvas prints of the beautiful Maasai tribe women and those lovely colorful beaded bracelets . Thank you for being you . Rest now with all your brothers and sisters xxx Finn

Sincere sympathy to Fr. Leo’s family, fellow Kiltegan fathers, his many friends and the Kenyan community he faithfully served throughout his missionary life. He was a good and saintly man who fully embraced the Lord’s commandment to ‘love God and love your neighbour as yourself’. He will be sorely missed but fondly remembered, and, his legacy will live on in Pokot and the Bobleo Home and School that he founded to benefit disabled children. A fitting testament to Fr. Bob and Fr. Leo, and indeed to the Staples family who contributed so much to the Church. Go dtuga Dia suaimhneas síoraí dá anam uasal.

It is with great sadness that I bid farewell to Father Leo, my friend and mentor for over sixty years.
From the first day that I met Fr. Leo, when I was a newly minted doctor taking charge of Ortum Hospital, he became my inspiration and my role model.
As I floundered to handle my responsibilities Fr. Leo buoyed me up when the going was tough, gently chastised me when I did not measure up and counseled me when I needed to find the best approach to meeting the health needs of the local people. He had not only mastered the Pokot language but was immersed in their culture, their well being. both spiritually and materially. His love for serving people came from a deeply imbued love of God , tempered always with humor and modesty which endeared him to everyone he encountered.
The BobLeo Home and School for children with disabilities which he founded was dear to his heart and stands as a legacy to him and his beloved brother, Fr. Bob
My sincere condolences to you, his dearly loved family. I know you were devoted to him
And to his confreres, the St. Patrick Fathers, I send sincere sympathy. In a recent conversation, he recounted how happy he was to be home and to celebrate the 70th anniversary of his priestly ordination with you. He also expressed his gratitude for the care he was receiving in the Care Unit
Although there are tears in my eyes, I am comforted in knowing that Fr. Leo is now at home with the God he loved and served so well.
