The best grandad ever I loved him so much and miss him so much

I was very sorry to hear about the passing of Gearoid, since his time in the tuck shop in Marymount to the recent years in Kilkenny I would often have great chats with Gar. Recently I got to know how good a friend and neighbour Gar was to my wife's aunt and uncle in Maudlin Street, Anne and Noel (Dolly) Malone. My sympathies to Corinna and family.

Gerry was a gent and a true friend to me and my family. He was always there for my mam and dad when they were alive, and his support and care continued even after they passed. Most recently September 2023;even though he had offically retired.Gerry went above and beyond. I contacted him for advice, regarding a lift i needed to work in Co.Carlow. I couldnt drive it myself due to an injury. The injury ment i could potentially be unable to drive for a number of weeks maybe months, so i needed a reliable driver. Now i never in a million years expected Gerry to offer to drive, i just hoped he could refer a friend. But he did. He showed up hail, rain or shine, and was always in great form. The kilkenny to Carlow commute must have been tiring, but he never complained. Over the weeks we spent on the road I got driving tips, hurling updates and many other stories. He often spoke fondly of his daughters and grandchildren during the commute, and would laugh if he passed one of them in his car particurally as he dropped me home in the evenings. He would say laughing" thats my daughter, shes going to wonder why im on this side of town". It was a pleaure to get to know Gerry better during this time. He will be sorely missed by many. My sincerest condolences to his daughters and all the family at this time.
