So very sorry to learn of Gerard’s passing. Had the great pleasure of meeting him in the Excel Cafe fairly recently. A real gentleman. I really enjoyed his company. God rest his dear soul. I met Gerry in London nearly thirty years ago when he was running a very successful nursing agency. He taught me the ropes and I became part of the Welbeck Care extended family. We stayed in touch and managed to catch up for a few beers with friends on the beach on the South Coast of England quite recently.
He was a thoroughly decent man, always supportive of friends and colleagues. He'd assume the best of everyone and give everyone his time and energy. His laugh was infectious and he had a lovely way with him. I'm dreadfully sorry to hear this sad news, the world is a little darker without him in it.

The gentle, thoughtful and kind character of Gerry McHugh is an enduring memory of London in the second half of the 1980’s when we were both outsiders in the city and were connected by the marriage of Maura’s brother to Gerry’s sister. Gerry’s place in our hearts did not diminish with the passing of the years and his memory will continue to be a joy to us.
