Dear Derek, so shocked and saddened to hear the terrible news. Sending my deepest heartfelt condolences to you, Jack, Molly, Imogen and Sean. I always asumed I would meet Helen again some day and we would reminisce about our days in the Morning Star, Roundwood Road and Camden. She touched so many lives deeply and will continue to live very vibrantly in my memory. Stay strong, Derek, in the difficult days ahead. It's good to know you will be surrounded by such a loving family. I will never forget her.

All our love to Derek, family and friends.
This is written on behalf of Wendy as she physically can't. When I first met Helen she was a young 20 year old, who quickly became part of our family. A few years later we welcomed Jack into our world. Helen was more than just a sister-in-law. she was my friend and comrade. We supported each other through many turbulent times and celebrated many occasions together too. Helen was a brave and wise woman, she was tolerant and above all kind and gentle and had the biggest heart. She was there for me in times of crisis and never judged me or anyone else. I am devastated at all of our loss, and so proud of how she battled. Helen
is locked in my heart forever and I will always see her mischievous twinkling smile whenever I think of her. I send my love and heartfelt condolences to my beautiful nephew Jack, to Derek and the gorgeous kids Molly, Sean and Imogen. She did so many great things in her life but creating all of you wonderful and great kids was her best achievement . Love your Aunty Wen xx

I'm writing this for mum because she can't. When she first met Helen she was a young 20 year old at university. She became part of our family and a couple of years later we all welcomed Jack into our world. Helen was brave and wise and she and mum supported each other through many turbulent times, but always remained sisters and comrades until the end. Helen will be missed by mum so very much and never forgotten, how could we? She was a free spirit, tolerent and above all else, a gentle and loving woman. Our family were blessed to have her in it, and we'll cherish the memories , we'll see her twinkling smile for the rest of our days. Mum is sending her condolences to her beloved nephew Jack and to Derek, Molly, Sean and Imogen. Your mum was bloody ace! Just the best!

Dear Derek, Jack, Molly, Sean and Imogen,
I think you all know how much I loved and admired Helen.
I am gutted that I can’t get back from Madrid in time for the wake today and the funeral service tomorrow.
I am comforted by the fact that my oldest and dearest friend Derek will be surrounded by his wonderful family and the KIllala “posse”.
Helen was a truly remarkable woman, fiercely intelligent, funny, kind, generous, genuinely interested in other human beings and someone who left an indelible impression on anyone she met.
I have so many happy memories of her, especially of her visits to Madrid and Conil in the last few years. Helen certainly knew how to “suck out the marrow of life”. It was life affirming to see how much she enjoyed Spanish food and wine.
She has certainly lived a “life worth living”, and knew how to unashamedly enjoy the good moments in life as well as showing a remarkable resilience when getting through the bad ones.
I guess when we get to a certain age we all think about our legacy to this world , and hers is enormous; her wonderful books and poems, her creative writing classes where she helped many “ordinary” people discover their writer’s voice, her countless acts of kindness, solidarity and generosity and above all, her four beautiful, intelligent, sensitive, talented children who are already out there doing good things in the world and will continue to do so.
You changed people’s lives for the better Helen.

Very sorry to hear of Helen's death. I met her through music when I was a child and she made all the difference - what a brilliant musician and encouraging, funny, vibrant soul. May she rest in peace.
Dear Jack, Derek, Molly, Imogen and Sean. Your mum and wife, helped shape my world growing up and we spent so many wonderful times together. The best was when we all lived together in London and shared family holidays in Turkey together. She was an exceptional role model to a teenage girl and was more than my aunty, she became my friend too. I send love to you all and I'm devastated not to see her beautiful face one more time.
My deepest sympathies to you Derek, and family, on Helen's passing. My thoughts are with you all.
