Ian LACEY

Condolences to the Lacey family on the loss of Ian. A true gentleman and an innovator in specialist radio music programming. His knowledge of reggae music was immense, and he inspired so many through his passion and his gift for connecting with listeners.

I have fond memories of Ian and Patricia spinning records in BLB, back when we were all young and helping to shape the exciting new world of community radio.

He will be greatly missed.

Sincere sympathy to David, Denzil and Marcia on your loss. Your dear Dad was a pioneer in community and local radio, and it is thanks to him and many of his friends at the time that the importance of local radio in Ireland was recognised, and it allowed a new variety of music and art to be broadcast. May he rest in peace.

I am so very sorry to hear this news. I had many lovely interactions with Ian over the years in 64 - he was so knowledgable about wine and so understated in his approach. Always kind, always gently spoken, always friendly and welcoming. It is a difficult time when one such as Ian leaves us, I offer Denzil and all his family my deepest condolences and will think fondly of Ian always.

I listened to John Public on the radio for a number of years prior to meeting him in person when he brought Black Echoes to Dublin City FM.
I felt a musical connection straight away but also met a fine broadcaster who was an expert on his chosen music genre.
With his reggae and my jazz we had lots to talk about.
I particularly remember an American listener to Black Echoes who found my show as a consequence.
Ian was an expert on cricket and a big fan of the BBC Sea Area Forecast. I feel that his presentation style partly evolved from these interests.
