James (Jim) DOUGLAS

Very sad to hear, belatedly, of the death of the lovely James. He and Eileen were such great friends of my parents, Michael and Lil Judge, stemming originally from Jimmy and Dad being fellow television scriptwriters for Tolka Row from 1967, and later The Riordans, and founders of the Society of Irish Playwrights (SIP), which they started as The Irish Authors Association (IAA) in October 1969. They had many happy times together having dinner in each others' homes, and out at theatre evenings and many other events.

I am so sad to hear of the passing of Jimmy. My deepest sympathy to Eileen and all the family on the loss of your beloved husband, dad, grandad and great grandfather. I have lovely memories of both of you being guests in my parents house, Lil and Michael Judge. He was a true friend to my dad and always a great gentleman. May he rest in peace.

I was very sorry to see your father’s death notice in this morning’s paper. The awful thing about having a wonderful father who lives to a good old age is that it’s an awfully painful wrench when he dies. I suspect you did him proud in everything you have achieved. Take care of yourself.
