Jim was mentioned many times in chats.A beautiful family.. ful family. God rest all their souls.
Even as a teenager I realised, when my friend and I stopped to chat with Jim (Mr Larkin - we never called him Jim), that it was rare to find a person with such a fierce intellect, with whom you could just quickly cover the matters of the day. Deepest sympathies to Mr Larkin’s family.

As a UCG student of Physics in the late 1960's/early 1970's I have great memories of Jim Larkin. A gifted and creative experimenter he explored new frontiers. I particularly recall the day that, using his own contructed cryogenic equipment, he liquified helium for the first time in the west (if not all) of Ireland.
Dressed in cravat and the ubiquitous brown jumper he arrived at Block R in his gleaming yellow Ford Escort (1989 IU). Jim was both inspiring and challenging.
My sincere sympathy to the Larkin family and friends.
Deepest sympathies to the Larkin family on the loss of Jim. He was an inspirational lecturer and invariably gave an insightful and colourful view of the universe around us. He was always great for a chat as he walked with his dog around the village. May he Rest In Peace.
My sympathy to Tom, Helen, James and the extended Larkin family. Jim was very helpful to me, and others new to Experimental Physics in 1972. In 1978 when I fractured my tibia, Jim took me to and from Hospital. He always had an eye for those in need, both then and during his lecturing career. I got some of his beautiful yellow dahlias and gardening advice. May Jim rest in eternal peace.

He had a kind and generous character, and was larger than life. To this day his former students never reunite without his name being mentioned, always with a smile and happy memories. May he Rest in Peace, a lovely friendly man, he had a word for everyone. Condolences to the family.
I’m absolutely heartbroken to hear of Jim’s passing. He was the most beautiful person. I’ve known Jim since the late 70s. We didn’t share faculties, nor subjects at all, but we shared a sense of place in UCG, Oranmore, and his absolute passion for his beloved doggies. We encountered each other frequently in Rinville Park. We would alway have the chat and a few doggy belly rubs too! 😂 I do mean DOGGY belly rubs!
We also shared a common sense of humour and a belief that it was never necessary to get too bothered about things. Condolences to all his family and Gracie too. He meant a lot to many. He will be so missed.
Sincere condolences to Jims family, we have missed meeting him for the chats around the village. He always stopped and had some wonderful stories. He loved his rescue dogs. May he rest in peace.

To all of Jim's family we were so so sorry to hear of his passing. We knew him initially from Renville and more recently from the village, where we always talked about the dogs first, and then whatever conversation would come up. Rest in peace Jim with your beloved joy, and all your canine friends who have crossed the rainbow bridge x
