My deepest condolences to the Lane family on the sad of Jim. Although I didn't know him personally he had a special place on my thoughts owing to the fact the he was the piper leading the funeral cortege of my uncle, James Crossan,who was assassinated on August 24th, 1958 during Operation Harvest. I would have come across aspects of Jim's life while browsing online. What struck me was his deep principles and sense of justice. Unfortunately, I never got to meet him but as history buffs and left leaning Republicans I think that we'd have a lot to discuss. However, it didn't happen so all I can do is reiterate my sympathy and may Jim rest in peace.

So sorry to hear of Jim's passing. Never forgotten here in the Fermanagh/ Cavan area. Ive a picture somewhere of Jim playing the pipes as a 16 yr old at Patrick McManus's funeral in Kiladuff Graveyard in Swanlinbar 1956. May he sleep gently alongside Ireland's patriot dead.
