Deepest sympathy to Judith, Kathryn, Elizabeth, Sarah-Jane, Jerome, Anna, Joan’s brother Pat, and all the Kavanagh and Walsh families on the very sad passing of their beloved Joan. I have been a close friend of Joan for 40 years. I have so many wonderful memories of her in Ballsbridge College Day School and Night School, and in the TUI. We also enjoyed trips away with the ICA, step dancing sessions, and in later years holidays with the retired members of TUI. Joan was always so much fun and so caring and generous, and she displayed remarkable bravery and stoicism in her illness. It has been an honour and a privilege to have been her friend.

Sincere sympathies to the Kavanagh family at this very sad time. Joan was held in high esteem and affection in Ballsbridge College by students and staff alike. She was always willing to share the load and she was great fun - Room 10 will never be the same again. She was a wonderful teacher, colleague, and friend. The thing that I remember gave her the most spontaneous joy was when Joan would talk about her family. It is a terrible loss for you. Thinking of Joan and you all at this sad time. I’m so glad she got to experience the very special place that is Lourdes and I know she enjoyed our chance meeting at the sing song in the Hotel Solitude during her visit. We lit a Lourdes candle at home in honour of your mum and I will remember her on our next visit to the Grotto.

I knew Joan through TUI and the TUI Credit Union. I loved her and admired her in equal measure. She was such a lady and gentle person and her motto in life seemed to be to help people. I would always feel better in life after an interaction with Joan which sounds a lot like Wellbeing before it became fashionable.
