We extend our deepest condolences to you Philly and to all the family. What a lovely woman Joan was! When we were newly living in Ardnagaoithe in the late 1970’s Joan used to supply me with sour milk for baking my brown bread. She was always so lovely to us and had that wonderful happy smile and laugh. May she rest in the loving arms of the Lord.

My Sincere Sympathy to all the Spillane family on Joan's passing.

My memory of Joan is of a kind, generous lady who more than 70 years ago when we Miley Spillane's children used to visit Joan in Raheen on St. Stephen's Day ----- The Wren Day. Joan would invite us into the kitchen and give us Little Norah Orange or a bottle of White Lemonade, Iced Christmas Cake and lots and lots of Biscuits.
As we were leaving we would sing our Wren Song and Joan would put Half Crown into our Wren Box. Half Crown in today's money would be at least twenty euro. That night we would share the Half Crown between us and have great fun playing 35 Card Games for MONEY.
To this day at Christmas I tell my children and grand children all about visiting Joan on St. Stephen's Day.
This is my abiding VERY HAPPY MEMORY of JOAN.

My sincere condolences to the Spillane family on Joan’s passing. She was such a kind hearted woman. In the 1980’s, as young lads we only knew her as Mrs Spillane when she gave us our fishing permits and the boat keys for Lough Bó Finne. She always had a kind and encouraging word when we called in.
