We are so grateful for all Joe did and his presence in our lives, his legacy will live on forever, will miss him dearly. We will forever fondly remember his wit & banter and his selfless acts of kindness. What we will always remember most about Joes passion for athletics was not just his competitive nature or his ability to motivate or the time and he gave to the sport he loved so much but his natural nuturing character and ability to always put the person before the performance.

Deepest condolences to Gladys, Pamela, Emma and all the Cooper Family as well as to all my fellow Harriers.
It is so hard to put into words how impactful Joe was on my life and the life of many other Harriers. I consider myself truly blessed to have had Joe as my coach from day 1. His care and dedication to all of his athletes, to Clonliffe and to athletics in Ireland really went above and beyond and he will be forever missed by so so many of us.
I will forever fondly remember and cherish the memories; the training sessions, the races, the trips, the car/bus rides, the conversations, the little jokes, the stories, the singalongs... I don't just count the "good" running days as Joe made even the "bad" days ok and managed to uplift us all when our spirits were down ("Nil Desperandum"). His support, encouragement, guidance and jovial nature spurred on so many of us. I personally credit not just my running success to him, but much of the character I developed under his mentorship.
Thank you Joe, for everything. You will be missed immeasurably.
Rest in peace.

My sincere condolences to Gladys, Pamela, Emma, Joseph, Robert and Ian,
I have learned so much from Joe over these past 20 odd years by his side in Clonliffe Harriers not only about this wonderful sport of ours but how to be a better person. I've truly loved working with Joe especially at the various events we organised, the cross country events are particularly fond memory from the early morning meeting to build the course then to the race itself, and then finishing off with a pint and a chat in the Clonliffe bar. Saturday mornings however are my treasured memory, many's the time Joe would survey the scene of 40 or 50 young Harriers training under their coaches 'isn't this just brilliant' he would say.
Joe's list of honours he brought to our club speaks for itself the only word to describe it is 'extraordinary'. Never one to seek personal glory he always spread the glory declaring 'it's a team effort' – that to me sums up the great man.
I am smiling as I write this but I am brokenhearted. Thank you Joe for all you have done your memory will always be treasured where ever the Harriers may gather.

Deepest condolences to Gladys and family from all in St. Aidan's.
Farewell Captain. We will dearly miss that broad smile greeting us on a wet Tuesday in Santry, that broad smile on a windswept cross-country course in some corner of Ireland, that broad smile hanging over tea and cake in the bar.
We will never be alone on those windswept hills.
Nil Desperandum,

Joe was a great man on and off the athletics track. His passion for his beloved Clonliffe Harriers was an amazing trait.
Joe support of athlete's including me when I competed in Clonliffe races, was above reproach and I will never forget his kind words and encouragement.
While a great credit to athletics Joe was a great man off the track, I have many found memories of Joe in the Clonliffee bar after races and on the many occasions we met at European Cross country races and the famous pre and post match reviews.
My condolonces to Joe's family and my thoughts are with you at this tough time.
