Condolences to Michael, Helen and Kristen on the sad death of Col John. He leaves behind a legacy of excellent service with the Defence Forces and it was a privilege to have served on his staff in Defence Forces Headquarters in 1983-85.

Dear Michael, Helen and the extended Ryan and Stafford families I am so saddened to hear of John's death . It is such a short space of time since his dear wife, Joan's death. I hope you can take comfort in the knowledge that they are now reunited and resting in eternal peace and reaping the rewards of their kindness and generous natures. They were such a gentle couple totally committed to each other. Rest in peace Joan and John.

So sorry to hear of John’s passing. He was Battalion Adjutant in Cathal Brugha Barracks when I arrived there on commissioning in 1967. He set an exacting standard for both himself and everyone else and I was delighted to serve with him on a number of occasions over many years. He was indeed a man of passion and honour and a thorough gentleman. May you Rest in Peace John.
