My condolences to the OShea family and Maura, on the death of Sean. He was a colleague of mine in CCRi in the early seventies. I remember him as a mentor and confidence builder, who helped me along the way as I began my challenging role as a female teacher in an establishment full of males.
Rest in Peace Sean.
We are very sad to hear of John’s passing. Our sincere condolences to you, Maura and all the O’Shea family. It was an absolute pleasure and privilege to have known this colossus of the theatre world. Sincere sympathy Máire, John was a huge part of your life. I have lovely memories of working with him in Everyman, making costumes, sets & prompting. He was a thorough gentleman and made every member of the team feel valued and respected. Theatre in Cork in those days owed so much to his vision & that of his fellow directors in Everyman. Rest in peace John.
Sincere condolences to Maura and the family, extended family and friends of Johno on their loss. We will never see his likes again. Le meas mór.
Like many posting here my love of theatre and my subsequent career in it grew out of a chat with Johnno. It started with 14 year old me painting the toilets purple in the Playhouse.
When I needed an adult ear 2 years later he was there for me.

Thanks Johnno.

Rest in peace.

I never had the honour of meeting John but I have had the privilege of becoming a small cog in the workings of the Everyman theatre. He left a living legacy that will carry on for generations and he made the world a better place for having been in it. Condolences to all who mourn his passing.
Sorry for your loss.

Our sincere condolences to Maura and the O Shea family on Johno’s passing.
He was a most kind man who provided invaluable advice to young teachers in their early days in CCR and was most entertaining at all school social events with his stories.
May he rest in peace.
It was a great privilege to have had Mr O Shea as a teacher in CCR, but an even greater honour to have a such a beneficial friendship with Johno during my school days.

Just knowing that this big, charismatic and caring man always looked out for me and was willing to stick his neck out for me and give me a telling off when I needed it too, which he did on many occasions. I'll never forget the chats we had and the advice he gave me which I have carried throughout my life.

His passion for everything always made learning feel so enjoyable and he has left such a significant, positive impact on my life, during school and still to this day.

Thank you for being a brilliant teacher but more so for being an amazing person, a gentleman and for believing in me and seeing the good in me and others like me.

I would never have made it through school without you, but I did and I've never forgotten that.

Thank you

R.I.P Sir

May John Rest in Peace.
My sympathies to Maura and family on John's passing. I was a pupil in Christ Ri in the 60's and appreciated how he cultivated a love and respect for Theatre in the school and later the legacy he left throughout Cork with Everyman in the CCY and Fr. Mathew Hall. Like many others I benefitted from his ( and the late great Dan Donovan's) work and vision. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam dilis.
Dear Niall.

Heartfelt condolences to you, Maura and all John’s family and many friends. Saddened for the passing of his great ‘larger than life’ character.

Will miss his generous swashbuckling spirit, his devotion to family, his infectious love for theatre and literature, his delight in the idiosyncrasies of Corks creative community and his incitement of others to engage.

First met him as a teenager due to a ludicrous misunderstanding. Didn’t realise it was the start of a lifetime friendship with a great many meetings in Monkstown, London. Manchester and Galway down the years. . He was much loved by my parents and the local community for his wit, warmth and affirmative good nature.

I still treasure his thoughtfully chosen gifts of books over the years along with postcards from France and some of his wonderful landscape photographs.

On his UK visits there was usually at least one Theatre evening. John would often go backstage to meet old friends; on one such we met the great Colin Blakely, shortly before he died, who greeted John like a lost brother. In Manchester, in master storeyteller mode, he kept a crowded bar rapt with stories delivered in brilliantly mimiced Lancashire accents. In Galway we shared some flying and boating adventures - including losing our boat on a pilgrimage to Inchagoill.

It was a great privilege to have a friendship with your Dad and I can only begin to imagine your feelings of loss.
I wish you every strength.
My sincerest sympathy to the extended O'Shea family on the death of John.
