John & Barney were more than neighbours across the road. They were true characters of Thomas Davis Street. Our door-step chats during all the years about life made me not only feel at home in the Liberties, at times he felt like a little granddad to me. He’ll be missed dearly.

Sincere sympathies to all John’s family at this sad time. I have great memories of John from when we worked together in Francis Street. It was always a good start to my day when I’d meet John in the yard every morning and have a little chat before starting work. John was always in good humour. He was equally interested and interesting to talk to and shared many a nugget of wisdom with me. I was very fond of John and loved to see him even when he no longer worked with us. Rest in peace John.

So sorry to hear of the passing of my neighbour John. He was a gentleman and he always had time to stop for a chat. He was so welcoming from the day I moved to the Liberties in 2022. May John rest in peace.

John worked in Francis Street School, “ Franner,” for many years as caretaker and was a true gentleman to both staff and children alike.

He was a much-loved and valued member of the school community and very much part of the fabric of the school.

John took me under his wing when I first started in Francis St school, preparing the kettle and cups of tea after my early morning commute and even popping out or giving me a call if I was running late to share his parking permit. John had a wonderful, kind and caring heart. I’ll never forget how he minded me so well. Rest in Peace John.

Sincere condolences to John’s family. John was one of the all time greats.

Met him in working in Francis Street in 2016 and we became great pals even after we both left the school.

Talking ‘codswallop’ with John was always a joy, whether it was sport, history, Barney, or his time in the Merchant Navy. I could talk with him
all day.

You could tell how much he loved his family and I’m sure you will all miss him very much.
