Sincere condolences to Glen and to all John’s family and close friends. Apart from the great loss to you all, John is a great loss to Irish Pathology. Though never working directly with John, our paths have crossed constantly for over 3 decades and it was always a pleasure. I will miss his radiant smile and dry wit. Apart from his work in Bons, he made huge contributions nationally to Faculty of Pathology over his career. May he rest in peace after his heroic battle with ill health
Deepest sympathies to Glen and John and Glen’s families - I have had the pleasure of knowing John for many years through Histopathology. He was a great doctor and colleague - a complete gentleman with a wonderful sense of humour. He will be greatly missed.

My deepest condolences to John’s family. John and I were friends during our time together in St Laurence’s. I have many cherished memories of this kind, gentle, soft-spoken man with a brilliant mind and a wicked sense of humour. At dheis Dé go raimh a hanam.
Our conversations while waiting for the bus from school back to Bray remain engrained in my heart. John was such a lovely person. RIP.
I was shocked to learn, this evening, of John's passing and to have departed this life at such a comparatively young age. I and my family lived, almost, next door in Rathclaren (Bray) from 1976 to 1978 and it was through knowing the O'Dowds that I ended up attending St. Laurence O'Toole College in Loughlinstown where we completed our Leaving Certificate. Unfortunately after a year or two we lost touch until the 1999 Class of '79 reunion and subsequent reunions. I had an interesting conversation with John about three years ago which was the last time we spoke. We both have male partners so we had that in common too. Condolences to Glen, Margaret, and the rest of his family. May he rest in peace.
Deeply saddened to hear of John's passing We were in secondary school together in St Laurence College. He was bright, funny and gentle back then and when we met many years later at school reunions I was delighted to see he hadn't changed. Sincere sympathies to John's husband, Glen, his family and friends at this very sad time.
Glen, so sorry to hear this sad news. Will keep you and your families in our thought and prayers.
Our deepest sympathy to Glen and all John’s and Glen’s family and friends. Frank and I were colleagues and friends of John for many many years. John was an exceptional Histopathologist, he provided a wonderful pathology service in the Bon Secours Hospital. John was very warm, kind, caring and supportive and always did his best for everyone. He will be very greatly missed by so many. May he rest in peace. Mary and Frank

Deepest sympathy to Glen, Margaret and all John’s extended family. I worked with John in RCSI many years ago. He was a wonderful colleague, always helpful, kind and thoughtful. May he rest in peace.
I first crossed paths with John in St James’s all those years ago and latterly when I took the position of Chief in Haematology at the “Bons” (2007 - 2018). John was one of ‘nature’s gentlemen’ in both the professional and personal sense and my world is the richer for knowing him. To Glen, and all his family, I offer sincere condolences and may he rest in peace.
My deepest sympathy to Glen and all of John's family. I was a colleague of John's in the Bon's for the last 5 years but knew him over most of my career. He was an absolute gentleman and a kind and thoughtful person to work with. He will be sadly missed.

He is a great loss to Glen, to his extended family and to his wide circle of friends. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. May he rest in peace.
I was so sad to hear of John’s death. Deepest sympathy to you Glen and to Margaret , Anne and Nora and the extended O’Dowd family. John was such a dedicated husband, a cherished son, a loyal caring nephew to his aunt Margaret ,an exceptional doctor who willingly listened if family asked for support or advice. He will be greatly missed. May the love and care he shared with you Glen and Margaret and the great memories you have sustain you in your grief.. You are in my thoughts and prayers at this sad time.
