My sincerest sympathy to all the Flavin family and connections.
Johneen was a close friend of mine as we grew up.
I remember playing football in Galvin's Lawn and the manner in which his mother Kate looked after all of us.
We always had a great chat at the entrance to the LANE after training in Bally.

I had the pleasure of knowing John when he was a shop steward on building sites in London in the early 1970s. Even then, as a young man, he was highly respected for his dedication to improving the pay and conditions of the workers and he went on to become a leading light in the Trade Union Movement. His book ‘To Fight is to Win’ is a fascinating story of his life from his youth in Ballylongford to his career in the Labour Movement.
John is one of Ireland’s unsung heroes. The better pay and safety which workers now enjoy on sites is largely a result of John’s hard work and dedication.
My sympathy to his wife Maureen and family in UK and Ballylongford.
