John will be remembered as a truly great teacher. He had an ability to make Geography and English really really interesting to wild teenagers and thus much easier to learn. What an amazing skill to have. May he rest in peace.

Sincere sympathy to the Hickson family on the loss of John. We were some of his first students in Fermoy in 1968. He was a breath of fresh air the best and most inspiring teacher I had. He introduced us to modern Irish history and literature. His knowledge was immense but worn lightly. He was a patient and kind teacher gentle and softly spoken. He treated each student with respect. Great memories. May he rest in well deserved peace.

So sorry to hear of John's passing. He was vice principal of St Colman's College when I tought there. He was always so approachable and helpful.
