Deat Patty and Denise, please accept my sincere sympathy on the loss of your husband and father. I have fond memories of the conversations we had in Belrose during my teen years and beyond. He was a lovely gentleman with a quick wit and a lively spirit!

John was a great community person. Worked in Tidy Towns for several years with Him. He was totally committed to the cause, ensuring Dunshaughlin acquitted itself well, each year, in the Competition. He also had good sense of humour. So in the midst of the weeding, scuffling and planting, with John at the helm, there was always lots of fun and laughter !!!

It is with deep sadness that we received the news that John has passed away. John contributed so much during his career with the former Meath VEC including as Principal at O’ Carolan College, Nobber and founding Principal of Dunshaughlin Community College. When we think of John we think of a much loved, respected member of the leadership team who was vibrant, competent, committed, visionary, loyal, empathetic, creative and talented. We will never forget John for his care for his students and staff and his support and insightful and informed guidance and advice for all.

We extend our deepest sympathies to John’s wife Patty, his children Denise, Ronan, Elaine, Shane and Aveen, his sister Gretta , grandchildren and extended family members.

Kathleen and I are in Newcastle Australia and i just heard of the very sad news from my brother Gerry that John has passed away. I always had such respect for John from his time as my teacher in Nobber Teck.
i had intended to visit him on our return home. I could not praise John half enough as a friend and a gentleman.

Sincere condolences to the Holland family on the passing of Mr Holland. I was a student of Mr Holland in early 80's and remember him as great teacher and principal.

I last met John some years ago at an MAHS event in Dowdstown House. I have good memories of him from his time in Nobber during the 1950's when he actively supported the establishment of Macra and the Irish Farmers Association. He also brought film to Nobber where I first viewed Oliver Twist, Captain Boycott and others. After a life well lived may he rest in peace.

Condolences to the Holland Family on the sad passing of John a good teacher and a great Community worker in 1979 he allowed two Soccer clubs The Archers and The Rebels to play Soccer on the College Grounds in 1984 Changing rooms were put up This was before the Jack Charlton era all thanks to John Holland & Staff at DCC. rest in peace John

It is with a very heavy heart that we have heard of the sad passing of John. John was a much loved, respected and valued member of our DCC community, and we are deeply saddened at his passing. John was the founder and former Principal at Dunshaughlin Community College; a man of educational vision and we will always remember John for his dedication, determination and vison. John was the foundation of our school, and we sincerely thank him for that. His legacy will forever be remembered in our college.

I am very sorry to hear of Mr. Holland’s passing. His civics classes taught me many valuable life lessons which have served me well in the decades since. I hope he knew of the hugely positive impact he had on his students’ lives. He was a strict but fair principal who was very well respected, regarded and liked by his students and staff. Sorry to have missed you Patty and Ronan when I called to the funeral home this evening. Our sincere sympathy to you both (and again to all the family) on John's passing. Always enjoyed meeting him in Nobber, St Finians (in the 70's) or elsewhere since. Captained Nobber in Junior Football Final in 1956 V Oldcastle and was reported as 'a stonewall defender' in that match. Rest in Peace John.

Sincerest condolences to Mrs Holland, Elaine and siblings. I have fond memories of Mr Holland as our principal when Elaine and I were classmates and friends at the school. He was a firm but fair man that set clear expectations and held us accountable for our behaviors. He pushed us to bring out the best in us, and along with a few other select teachers set the launch platform for many of our lives and careers. His impact may have been unknown to him, and under-appreciated by us at the time, but immeasurable nonetheless.
