My condolences to my cousins and their families on the repose of John Lynch. Uncle Jack features in vivid memories from my childhood in the 1960s to current times.
Our summer holidays from London to Clahane were enriched by his daily presence in his series of hard-working Ford vans. We went everywhere—Puck, Inch, and beyond—with Mum, Dad, and us three children in the back. I cherish the times alone with him at fairs and markets in Kanturk and Castleisland, surrounded by orange and green bunches of carrots and 'mysterious' bottles of holy water kept safely out of sight.
I remember endless summer evenings in Ballyseedy with the kittens, hens, and ponies, while the parents talked over Aunty Nellie’s loving hospitality. We’d wander the woods at 3 o'clock and return in the twilight at 9 to find them 'still talking.' Those days felt like they lasted forever, ending with us 'flaking out' on a cousin's bed before the midnight drive back to Clahane.
I hope you're in one of those bright summer evenings now, Jack, with Nellie, in that part of heaven called Kerry—drinking tea, telling yarns, and catching up with loved ones. We got a glimpse of heaven in those Kerry summers without knowing it. I believe it is in that beautiful setting of talk, laughter, and love that we will all see each other again, in a place of light and peace where all sickness has fled away.
