Je me souviens encore de l’hospitalité que vous m’aviez offerte en Irlande, il y a plus de dix ans. Cet accueil chaleureux, reflet de votre gentillesse et générosité, m’avait beaucoup marqué.

J’avais par la suite eu des nouvelles de John par maman qui avait pour lui beaucoup d’estime et d’affection.
Que les souvenirs des moments heureux passés ensemble puissent t'apporter un peu de réconfort.

John was my best friend in College from our first days as Geology students, making me an honorary member of his Terenure circle on day 1. I have fond memories of shared experiences during practical crystallography classes in the clock tower in Merrion street, field trips fossil hunting at Feltrim Hill and mapping on cold winter hillsides.

While Deirdre and I did get to visit Aughrisbeg where we first met Danielle, we lost contact in later years, only meeting up again 10 years ago at class reunions, when the years fell away and our friendship was renewed.

A vous, Dany, sa chère épouse, à vos enfants Tristan et Oisin dont vous nous parliez tous deux avec amour, nous souhaitons beaucoup de courage pour surmonter le départ de Jean.

Rozenn, Bénig, Olwen et Erwan, Jamie et Annik, Yola et Annig, Brittany, depuis plus de 50 ans nos liens amicaux perdurent d'une génération à l'autre, liens créés par nos pères as soon as the 30's. Tous, je vous embrasse bien affectueusement.

Beaucoup de souvenirs de Jean me reviennent : son passage à Paris et à Rennes à son retour de la Barbade, puis lorsqu'il venait en Bretagne s'informer sur les "fisheries", et bien plus tard lors de ses visites à Papa Yann à St-Brieuc... Nous l'aimions beaucoup, mon mari et moi.

Que N.D. de Bon Secours, "Roanez an Aelez", Saint Yves et tous les saints l'accueillent Là-Haut, et veillent sur son âme si chère et si douce.

Lorsqu'on apprend le décès d'un parent, on se remémore nos moments partagés. Jean François est mon cousin de première génération, je l'ai rencontré une seule fois, c'était à Augrusbegg, il revenait d'un séjour d'un an à La Barbade pour ses études d'océanographie. Ensemble, nous sommes allés au Port récupérer des poissons d'une compétition de pêche sportive, pour nourrir les crustacés du vivier. Parmi les prises, il y avait du requin. Jean-François nous a assuré que c'était très bon. Il a choisi les bons morceaux et les a cuisinés. C'était délicieux. J'en mangeais pour la première fois. C'était, il y a un peu plus de cinquante ans... Je n'ai jamais oublié et étant devenu plongeur sous-marin, chaque fois que j'ai cotoyé des requins, sous l'eau ou dans mon assiette, j'ai pensé à Jean-François, et malgré son départ, il sera toujours dans mes souvenirs.
Nous nous unirons à vous par la pensée et la prière ce lundi. Nous vous adressons à tous nos très sincères et affectueuses condoléances.

Very sorry to hear of Jean's death. He was a good friend as well as being an excellent captain of the UCD Fencing Club (it was through fencing that we became acquainted). It was a privilege to have know him and to have fought on the same team, and I will always remember his good company and kind hospitality.
