I met him the day he got his diagnoses and we struck up a friendship in the hospital and even at the toughest time of his life he was such a good character to talk to had great stories to tell and stayed positive and loved his family and spoke of them often with pride. John was not just a friend but an addition to our parish here in Edgeworthstown. He told me he was a hurling man- that was the deal. A great hurling man, a great Innisfails man, John was Dublin GAA to the little toes. We could never ask for more but he always appreciated and LOVED our success down in Longford by winning the Longford SHC. We will win it in 2025 and dedicate it to John Foley.

John, always a gentleman. My sincere condolences to his family and friends. May he now rest in peace.
