Pauline and family, I am really sorry to hear about John's passing. He was always friendly, courteous and helpful as a colleague. We bonded a bit when I was on my own, much lighter , journey with illness. He had a great sense of humour as well and a broad perspective and experience of broadcasting , which he shared readily.
He was hugely missed when he left campus a couple of years ago and he will be hugely missed now.
I was away for the service and just wanted to extend my condolences to, you, Pauline ,and to the remainder of the family.

Brian
So sad to see the passing of John - we were classmates together in the post grad in journalism in DCU and crossed paths in work along the way in Magill Magazine - when he and Mark Brennock did a truly brilliant feature on homelessness - and of course in RTÉ where John left his mark and was always an open and engaging colleague. My sympathies to his family and close friends - far too young to leave us and far too soon to lose him in this world - Helen

Deepest sympathy to all of Johns Family and friends . We shared a partition wall in RTÉ and a lot of laughs at the entertainment industry and its foibles . RIP.
Many happy memories of working with you, taken too soon, rest in peace.🙏
Terrible that John has left us so early. I worked him both as a producer and a commissioner and he was always very supportive but more importantly he was fun and funny. Together we brought My New Best Friend into the world, an anarchic comedy series for Channel 4 that won Best New Comedy Series and almost drove us to distraction. Lots of love to all his family Clive x

Clare,I was sorry to hear the sad news about your brother. Sending you and all your family my condolences.
John and I officially joined RTE on the same date in 1986, following a public competition for researchers. Our paths crossed on Kenny Live in 1992-93, and we bonded over an interest in The Doors and American chat shows. As executive producer, John brought that programme to new heights, include a memorable appearance by U2 who were sitting in the audience while a band of doppelgangers 'performed' one of their hits on stage.
John was a great colleague, a brilliant guy to work with, and chat to. I and many others will miss him a lot.
My condolences to his family, and particularly to his brother Eoin, another great colleague of mine in News International.

Once met, never forgotten.
John McHugh was a kind, generous, and beautiful soul. From our early days working together at LWT to his incredible work at RTÉ, he knew that 'good craic' was the secret ingredient to every great production, not just on screen but in the spirit behind the scenes. Thank you for the laughs and the lessons, John—a beautiful soul who made the world a brighter place.
