Mary, Daithi, Jennifer and James I am so sorry to hear of Johns passing. We worked together for many years in RPII and had some craic on our marine trips around Ireland. He introduced me to vegetarianism and red wine - two things still close to my heart. He also regaled me with stories of Kilkenny hurling, in which I had no interest, but he told me anyway. We did however share an interest in the trade union movement and he gave his time generously to many causes. He will be missed.

Mary and Family,
I am very saddened to learn of John's death. Apart from both of us being Notts Forest supporters through thick and thin over the years, John had a profound effect on my life in that he was instrumental in me meeting my wife, Martina.
After a biochemistry grind one Friday night in late 1971 we adjourned to a dance at Mount Pleasant Tennis Club at his suggestion. Once inside John pushed me out on the dance floor and within minutes I met my wife to be. John could not attend our wedding but he sent a "memorable" postcard to us at the wedding, as only John would!
With profound sympathy to you all and eternal gratitude to a fellow Kilkenny man.
