I was very saddened to learn of John's passing and my heartfelt sympathies go to Carrie, Miriam, Susan, all John's grandchildren and extended family. In my time working with him in Kanturk I found him to be gentle, very supportive, encouraging and even humorous. In my frequent visits to Bantry in the past number of years I used to enjoy "catching up" with John. He had a lovely quiet sense of humour. It was a pleasure to have known him and to have worked with him. He was a decent man whom I will never forget. I have no doubt that his family will have beautiful memories of him. I admire John so much and I’m sad to know he has departed this world and pray for his eternal rest and your consolation in this loss. John and Carrie were great friends of mom and dad, Esther (née McCarthy) and Stan Macora. They would love to spend hours together in the summertime when they visited Bantry. I knew of their friendship and correspondence for many years before I was actually able to meet John and Carrie in person. How happy I was to know you both when I visited Bantry in 2017 and 2022. I popped in for surprise visits with my cousins and sister. I won’t forget those visits and the warm welcome you gave us and the animated conversations. I immediately understood why you were so special to my parents and why dad loved going up Seskin for a visit. It’s a bond that will always be a special memory me also. Your faith in God and love for your beautiful family we’re so palpable. I send my condolences on behalf of all the Macoras and take some comfort knowing that in faith we will all be be together again and maybe John and dad can continue their lively discussions in heaven.
