Seán was a valued member of the St John's team which won the South West Junior B Hurling Championship in 1949, having previously captained St Finbarrs, Farranferris. He maintained a life long interest in the fortunes of his native Newcestown and had a special grá for the exploits of his nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
