I have fond memories as a child of going into John's shops in Tone St & Market Square and exploring, while my dad and John would talk for what seemed like hours about the Moy and Killala bay. May John rest in peace.

In 1977 I came to know John when I came over from Germany to fish with him in Killala bay and in all the years since, but especially since I moved over to Ireland in 1984 have, I value John’s sound advice and his good-humoured banter.
