I was so saddened to hear of Johns Passing. I have wonderful and precious memories of many weekend trips to Bray with my Aunt Anne Doyle to visit our Dear Uncle Jim Dawson and on many occasions the three of us meeting John for a pint of the black stuff. The stories we shared and the laughs we had will remain with me forever. Rest in peace dear John. Xx

Blacklion has lost another amazing resident in the last number of months. Three lifelong neighbours, Mrs Kinsella, Ellen Lawless and now John Whiston, three great characters and extremely familiar faces in Blacklion. There will never be the likes of them again !!!

May the sod rest easy on your gentle soul.

Whilst I will remember John for his good nature, I will also remember him for his tenacity when it came to keeping his hedges in check.
Most of us struggle to get a level cut, even with the most modern of gadgets, but John with his failing eyesight would take his clippers & ladder (both of which I suspect to have been older than John himself), and make light work of the Griselinia, leaving the straightest cuts you are ever likely to see!
Rest in peace John.
