In 1962 I was sent over to see Uncle Joe. I shall treasure the fond memories of him trying to teach me all those years ago, in an attempt to improve my English and Latin, alas to no real avail!
With condolences to the family.

Lucy, Alex, Emma, Bill and Sam - so sorry for your loss!! So many memories of Mr. Pfeifer—- Tea Time at the cottage, visiting in the garden, stories at the cottage kitchen table, his smiling face at the open half of the cottage door after taking his beloved dog for a predictable afternoon walk, an Easter Mass at the Little Blue church, carpooling him with Lucy to Dementia Care in his fancy swivel car seat, his unique smile and laugh. Thanks for sharing your Dad, Grandad, with us over the years. But mostly, thanks for the witness of love and care for him - we were truly inspired by each of you - the kindness and sacrifice of time you took to make him comfortable always ! We have joined the Saint Joseph Shankhill Family committing a recurring monthly donation in his honor so that others may benefit from the program he enjoyed so much!
May God be with you-you now have another angel in heaven!!
All our love, the Marcel Farnet Clan - Marcel, III, Karla, Cameron, Azby, Jessica, Luke, Cooper, Kelsey, Bryan, and Skylar

To Lucy, Nick, Hugh, and Katie,
Deepest condolences to you and your families on the death of your father.
As a family, we have fond memories of times spent with Katie and Duchess (the pony) during pony club years in the 1980s. We met through that pony club connection and many happy summers days followed between the two families, usually spent driving to competitions, or chatting about horses, or jumping fences in the back field, or eating Shelagh’s most delicious macaroni cheese while Joe was expertly explaining something as he stood in the warmth of the cosy kitchen. Joe and Shelagh always welcomed everyone into their home, it was a lovely place to spend time. Great memories of fun and laughter and sunshine and friendship between our family and yours.
We will keep Joe and Shelagh and you all in our thoughts and prayers.
John, Mary, Niamh, Orla, Dara (RIP), Emer, and Johnny.

Sincere condolences to Emma and all of your family at this time. May Joe rest in peace.
Deepest sympathy to all the Pheifer family. Joe was a regular and entertaining lunch companion during my years lecturing at TCD. I especially enjoyed his story of the occasion when TCD English Department brought in a Nobel prize winner to resolve differing interpretations of its convoluted rules for aggregating examination marks!
With deepest sympathy to JDP's extended family, and in gratitude for his extensive and profound scholarship, his erudition, kindness and warmth and his inspiring enthusiasm. RIP. David Tomkin.
Sincere condolences. I had ‘Mr. Pheifer’ as my tutor in TCD 1967-71. He was so supportive and kind. I - and my friends from those years - have not forgotten him. May he rest in peace.

Condolences to Kate & the extended Pfeifer family. A gentleman through and through. Rest In Peace 🙏 Joe
So inutterably sad to hear of the death of my beloved Doktorvater. My deepest condolences to his wonderful daughters and sons, and cherished grandchildren, who cared so lovingly and steadfastly for him, especially in his final years. He was like an uncle to me, being my tutor since I was 18, and lifelong friend and mentor. I remember more or less every conversation I ever had with him, over four decades, and never failed to marvel at his astonishing scholarship. I still have all of his handouts, which he gave me when I helped clear out his office, and I still use them in teaching. Helping to produce his Festschrift was one of the happiest projects I ever worked on during my academic career. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
