I was lucky enough to meet Karen teaching in the UAE, what an amazing spark of life, always smiling and looking out for others.
I have such fond memories of our time there and visiting with her when she returned home.
I am holding those memories tight hearing of the loss of such a special lady. My heart goes out to all of her family and friends, you are all in my thoughts.

I have known Karen the past 15 years and her friendship, fun and kindness will be treasured forever more. Karen was one of the most compassionate people that I have ever met. To be called her friend was truly an honour.

I admired her incredible teaching from Day 1. I learnt so much from her - she was always happy to share her knowledge, and continuously eager to learn more.

Karen cared so passionately for the children that she worked with. She always strived to bring out the best in everyone that she spent time with, both children and adults. Her gentle soul will never be forgotten.

Sincere condolences to Bernard, the O’Brien and Brennan families. I had the pleasure of teaching with Karen in St John the Evangelist NS. Karen always had a smile on her face and included everybody. She was such a kind and patient person. I can remember taking part in her yoga classes after school and heading away on a ‘Mystery Trip’ with her and the rest of the staff to Monaghan. I lived on the same road as Karen as she grew up she along with my daughter Sarah and the other kids would play together safely and they could congregate in any of each other’s houses to hang out. They all grew up together and while they took their own track, they remained friends for their lifetimes. Karen was so happy to be a teacher and we were all proud of her. Karen was loved by all and it is a tragedy that we lost her so young. To Bernard Ann Gerry Stephen and the extended O’Brien and Brennan families, I cannot find words that will comfort your loss. We are bereft.
