I first met the Beirne family through Terry's stories of growing up across the street from Stokeville, and I fell in love. I fell in love all over again when I finally got to meet them in person after Terry and I got married in 1982. That's when I got to start creating my own stories and memories with the Beirnes. Kathleen helping me with the crossword puzzles, her sister Maura teaching me how to knit sweaters, Sorcha sitting on Des' knee, traveling around the States with Ronan and Sheila on their honeymoon, hosting Deirdre's students from the equine center, and so much more. The binding that holds all of these stories together has always been Kathleen, her incredibly open and giving heart, her sense of steadfastness and love, her patience and true humanity, her sheer strength and beauty. My love and condolences to Kathleen's family and friends.

It was so wonderful to be able to attend the funeral mass virtually this morning; thank you for making this possible.

Remembering our beautiful aunt . She will be dearly missed by all of her friends and family and by her Canadian family in Toronto and Kingston Ontario Canada. Her loving smile and gentle way will be with us always. Kathleen was the sister of our father Tom who sadly passed away in Toronto at the young age of 61 in 1992. We visited Dublin and our family a few times over the years but now that Kathleen is gone it seems not nearly enough. Your home was always a haven to our family and we knew no matter the issue she would always welcome us as if we were part of the family. I have too many fond memories of summer evenings in the garden, running from house to house and wonderfully delicious meals and she was always there in the forefront. Mrs Beirne was the mum everyone would have wanted. She had the ability to always make you feel special when engaged in conversation with her. Her smile, the twinkle in her eye.

I was truly fortunate on coming as a bride to Coliemore Road 61 years ago to have Kathleen and Des as our immediate neighbours. My late lamented husband Tommy was a ‘native’ having been born and lived his whole life on this special Road so it was so nice for me to have your Mum and Dad to be so welcoming to me and helpful in so many ways. We enjoyed so many occasions together. The last time I saw Kathleen was on her 100th Birthday in Altadore and it was a truly special occasion - the memory I treasure . Jean

I have just learned of Kathleen's death and want to add my words to those in the previous messages I have read. I totally agree with every word and adjective in them. Kathleen for many years was almost my surrogate mother and Stokeville my second home. She gave me so much during my formative years and was loved by all our family. My condolences to all the great Beirne family.

Kathleen and Des were the kindest most attentive neighbours anyone would wish for; my parents being the beneficaries! Indeed Kathleen continued to correspond with us up to last Christmas and after her last birthday; amazing! Sincere sympathy to all her children and extended family.
