Kay (Kathleen) FITZGERALD
(née Carroll)

To Catrina Jim Rob and families, as well as Michael, Marie and Pat. Kay was part of my growing up as you all were. I was privileged to grow up next door to your grandparents Jim and Kathleen Carroll and thus Kay got to know us well on your frequent visits to Ireland. She was always interested in me and in our family, and along with your late Dad Mattie, was very welcoming on my visits to London.
As a pioneer of hospice care working with Dame Cicely Saunders, she nursed many patients in their final illness. Her stories and her example were an inspiration to me in my work also.
By the time she moved back to live in Lanesboro, I had moved to Dublin - so unfortunately we didn't get to meet too often. She gave me a statue of the Holy Family (feast day is tomorrow) about 20 years ago which I treasure and keep on my desk, and will be an ongoing reminder to me of her kindness and goodness during her life. RIP Kay 🙏
