I have such fond memories of our PE classes with Ms Hickey all those years ago and all the fun we had. Always enjoyed meeting her. May Maire rest in peace.

I’m so very sad about the passing of the mighty force Maire Allen. A second cousin once removed, and maybe in law, of mine; when we went up to Roscommon town to play any sport she became my aunt, in order to intimidate the opponents; “she’s Mrs Allen’s niece!” The respect (and maybe a little fear?!) in which she was held was very apparent to all. A dynamo! All my love goes out to Christy, John and Paul x

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Maire. I have very fond memories of Miss Hickey's PE classes during my time in the Convent which she always made so enjoyable. In later year she taught PE to my 2 daughters as Mrs. Allen. I often bumped into her in Roscommon town and she always made time to stop for a chat. Even though l wasn’t the best at sport l always enjoyed her PE classes . She was involved in setting up the sports camps when l started secondary school…l have great memories of those sports camps.She was involved in so much in the town ..volunteerism at its best!! My sincerest condolences to the Allen family on the loss of Maire. I was very saddened to hear of her passing. I have the fondest memories of her. She was a wonderful teacher of all different kinds of sport. I’m indebted to her drive, encouragement and support throughout secondary school. We had many trips all over the county to different sporting events and my memories are of fun and commitment. She brought out the best in us. We met occasionally over many years and we still had fun and remembered those days fondly. She will be missed.

John and Paul, I'm so sorry to hear of the passing of your beloved mother. My heart goes out to you and your family at this time. She was some woman, with a great sense of humour and an absolute champion for getting girls into sport. I have great memories of her from Athletics club and the Convent, as do my siblings and I hope all the wonderful memories you have of her offer you some comfort at this devastating time. She will be missed by all those she left her mark on.

I was at school with Maire since we were 4 years old in the Mercy Convent, Beaumont. We had such fun growing up, Netball was our School sport and I had the privilege of playing with Maire on many teams, representing our School.
I had lost contact with Maire, but having read the many condolence messages she certainly lived life to the full and had a real impact on so many lives.
