Dear Mona & family,

We are so shocked and deeply saddened to learn of Martin’s sudden passing. Martin was a cornerstone of our Green Tour golf group here in Atlanta, and has left a lasting impression on the culture of our golfing troupe. He was such a gent and great character. Personally, we shared a common bond with Marino and spoke often about it, and its imbibing establishments. I will miss his warmth and humor. A great man, sadly gone way too soon. We are so sorry for your loss. Rest in peace Martin.

Martin made a huge contribution to the Marino conference of St Vincent de Paul. He was recently unanimously elected as conference president and brought his intelligence, strategic thinking, compassion and unnecessary humility to the role and to his work with the society. I learned so much from him in the relatively short time he was with us. Móna I am so sorry for the loss of your remarkable and inspiring husband but I feel privileged to have known him.
Sincere condolences to Mona and the McDonnell family.
Martin was a wonderful human, a great friend and always tremendous company.

Martin was a quiet man with great humor and wit.
May he rest in peace.
To Mona and the McDonnell Family,

I was so deeply saddened to hear the news.

Working with Martin was a privilege. He was intelligent and driven, but above all profoundly human.

He introduced me to the proper enjoyment of a pint of Guinness, which he treated almost as a ritual. I would order a full pint while he would proudly ask for just a half , as if that were the perfectly disciplined way to enjoy it.

He introduced me to J. Joyce, insisting he should have won the Nobel Prize, and he quoted Oscar Wilde with perfect timing. In return, I introduced him to Gabriel García Márquez and teased him that at least one of our literary heroes had actually won the Prize. Those conversations are memories I will always treasure.

Whenever he was in London, we would visit the National Gallery. He would bring the paintings to life with his insight and enthusiasm, and later in the souvenir shop the “exam” would begin — a postcard raised, a quiet look, and a question to make sure I had truly been paying attention.

Above all, I remember how deeply he loved his family. He spoke of you with such pride and affection.

I feel grateful to have known Martino, as I called him, not only as a boss but as a friend. He shaped me more than he ever realised.

I trust that God has welcomed him home. May he rest in peace, and may you find comfort in the faith he carried so deeply.

With love, keeping you all in my prayers,
Memories of Martin meeting Mum, Gerard and me at Connolly Station. Him being tall we saw him as we approached the barrier. Always a warm welcome. Our condolences to you all . Our thoughts are with you in this sad time. May he rest in peace with those who have gone before him.

Dear Mona:

I would like to express my sincere condolences to you and your family. I met Martin while at LEP. I would come from San Francisco and always looked forward to seeing Martin. What a genuinely nice soul with a heart of gold. We had some very nice discussions beyond just work and I always left with such optimism. I hope knowing that Martin will always occupy a special place in this far away heart helps just a little during this most difficult time.
Mona and Family:
I am so sorry to learn of the passing of Martin, my condolences to you all. Martin was a good friend and colleague and we had many good times at Lep over the years. He will be missed by so many friends and colleagues that he touched.

Dear McDonnell family,
I am so sad to hear of Martin’s passing. Martin and Mona were in a Bible study group at St. Peter Chanel in Roswell, GA for many years that myself and my husband Bill were also members of. He was the one who named our group “The Band”, which we still refer to it this day. Martin was a wonderful source of spiritual insight and humor for our group, and Mona and Martin were gracious hosts for our group for many gatherings. We have missed their presence at our Bible studies since they moved back to Ireland, and we often remember them in our prayer intentions. Martin was larger than life and we can only imagine the depth of your grief and morning at his passing from this earth, but as believers, we know that Martin is so close to our Lord and Savior now, and we rejoice knowing he was a disciple of Christ, because he will be in paradise. The Band lifts you all up in prayer for consolation during this sad time for how much you will miss Martin and the joy he brought to your family, and everyone he knew.
We are shocked and saddened by Martin's unexpected passing. The world has lost a good, holy man, devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and brother. This is a loss for all of us. Our prayers are with Mona and all of the McDonnell family during this time of grief.
Mona and family
So sorry to hear of Martin's death. He had a great personality and made everyone who met him feel better. We shared our younger days in Monaghan /Armagh with many laughs and craic. Sympathy to all the family assuring you all of our prayers. RIP Martin. God bless.
My deepest sympathies to Mona and the family. Martin has been such a great friend and support over recent years — along with Mona — to my parents, Anne and Terry, for which my brothers and I are so grateful. They will miss him terribly but obviously nothing compared to the loss that you all are experiencing. Our prayers are with you at this difficult time.
We were very saddened to hear of Martin's passing. We knew Martin during his second spin in Atlanta where he was a much loved and active contributor to our golf scene. He was funny, engaging and very much a proud Dub. Above all, a thorough gentleman.

Rest in Peace
Sincere condolences to Mona, the family & the Mc Donnell Clan. At our last get together in Gaffneys, two weeks ago, resolving the problems of the world, Martin was saying how he had just taken on the role of President of the Marino Conference of the Society of St Vincent de Paul & his plans for the coming year. Rest well my friend. Barry & Paula
Sincere condolences Mona to you and all your family . Thinking of you at this sad time x
Dearest Mona,
I am so sorry to hear that Martin passed away, and to go unexpectedly is also very difficult to grasp. I am so glad that most of your children live not that far away, as I understood, as this is the time for family to come together and support you and each other. Please give my condolences to Barry, James, Claire and Maire, as the void will be felt because of the good father he was. I know your faith is strong and may God give you the Graces to go through this grieving time, but also to lean on Him for the support you will need. May Jesus minister to your Heart.❤️ ,and may you know that he is now in Heaven to claim and rest in His Eternal home with Jesus as he is a child of God. You and your family are in my prayers , throughout this Lenten season, where our Hearts are turned towards Him.
Mona and family,
We are so sorry to hear of Martin's passing. He was a true gentleman and great character. Loved the banter and camaraderie with his friends on the Green Tour. We both have fond memories of first meeting him in Roswell on the day of the All Ireland and of course meeting over Christmas in Rosemary Beach FL. He has left a last impression and is dearly missed. Our sincere condolences, May he Rest in Peace.
My deepest condolences to Martin's wife and family and to all the McDonnell family.

Dearest Mona, I don’t think there are adequate words to express my sorrow over Martin’s passing. We were so lucky to have been part of the LEP “family” and cultivate lasting friendships. I will always think fondly of Martin and remember his giggle when we all enjoyed such good times.

I can only begin to imagine how difficult this is for you, Barry, James, Claire, Maire and the entire family. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers.
