My deepest condolences to Martin's family. Martin and I worked together closely in the early days of the IMI back in the late sixties. I always enjoyed meeting him throughout the years since. We had a special connection as we both hailed from the West of Ireland. May Martin rest in peace.
Very sorry to learn of Martin's passing. I was honoured to have had him as Chair of the Audit Comm when I was establishing the Internal Audit function in JSG. His wisdom and insight was of great help and I learnt a lot about perspective.
The last time I met Martin was in Malaga airport a few years ago when he was attired more for going on Centre Court rather than a flight to Dublin! We had a great chat about the various Test matches he was going to over that summer.
A real gentleman- he will be missed by all.

I was a very young financial journalist when Martin agreed to give me his first interview as a banker in the 1960s. It may not have been a memorable interview in the History of business journalism, but I discovered an inspiring leader and everything I learned about about him in the last 50 years confirmed that he was indeed a one-in-a-million. Condolences to his family but his friends will miss him too.

I am so sad at the passing of a great friend -Martin was such good company and usually had an interesting story from from the business or sports world. I'll miss those trips to Old Trafford and London for United and Arsenal matches.
Our friendship sprang from the time I joined Glenageary tennis club, and our Sunday morning doubles tennis followed by the " University " pub visit . Whatever the subject ,Martin was the most likely to add some inside story from his own experience.

Deepest sympathy to the Rafferty family on the death of Martin. Fresh from college, Martin managed the family business in Glenamaddy for a period following the death of both of his parents in 1958 before embarking on a glittering career in business and finance. A formidable athlete, he played Gaelic football and tennis at a high level. Ever modest about his achievements both on and off the field he was a devoted father and husband who cherished his Galway roots.

Deepest sympathy to Kevin and all the Rafferty family on the sad passing of Martin. Thinking of you at this sad time . May he rest in peace.
My sympathy to all the Rafferty familiy on the passing of as fine a man as I ever met. It could be truly said of Martin that he was 'a man of no airs- but many graces'. His immense talents were only matched by a great generosity of spirit .and a rootedness in Irish life (especially ,as he often said, 'beyond the Red Cow'!). His sporting interests were never far from any conversation and his delight in Galway's 2017 SH win was palpable even over the phone. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam uasal.
Paul, Sincere Condolences to you and your family at this time.

My deepest condolences to David, Martin, Paul, Jim, Kevin & all the extended Rafferty family. Myself and other David's friends Alan, Stephen etc have great memories of hanging out and playing tennis in the Rafferty's in the oul'd days. Martin & Betty would always make us welcome. Martin was a very genuine person and always had the time for a chat. We had some great games of doubles but his grass court backhand often proved to be the decisive factor!. Rest in peace with Betty.
Sincere condolences to the Rafferty family.

We were very sad to learn of Martin’s passing. We offer you our condolences for your huge loss.
He was a larger than life wonderful character who was much liked and admired by all who were fortunate to know him.
I first met Martin in 1971 when, luckily for me, he employed me in Allied Irish Investment Bank when he was the Managing Director. It proved to be a fortuitous career step for me and I have been forever grateful to Martin for that.
