Maureen Fitzgerald

Only today I learned, with shock, of Maureen's passing, beannacht Dé leí. (I had been away from Limerick for some time). My condolences to her family and friends, especially Jacinta. She was a wonderful friend and colleague of my aunt, Íde Sionóid, since their days in Murroe school. It's lovely to read all the heartfelt tributes to Maureen's far-reaching influence as a teacher, friend, treasured family member and mentor. Suaimneas síoraí dá hanam uasal Gaelach.

Very sad to hear of Maureen's passing. I have very fond memories of Maureen & the great friendship she shared with my mother Déirdre & all the Tobin family, going back to since they were teenagers. Maureen was with mam the night she met dad. They shared lots of fun times & laughter together. May Maureen rest in peace. xx

It was always a pleasure to meet her, usually in the company of my Auntie Joan.

We are so sad to hear the death of Maureen. She was such a lovely person and a wonderful and inspiring teacher. Our children loved her classes. They remember her classical music appreciation classes and how she brought local history to life. May she rest in eternal peace.

Very sorry to hear the passing off Maureen a real lady we often met in Lee's in Newport and sang a song or two . she had a great rendition off coming from the fair in cappmore.rip Maureen.

It’s been a while since I was in 5th class in the Muintir na Tíre hall in Murroe, yet her lessons stay with me — from my love of poetry, to learning about onomatopoeia, personification, and even the full name of Oscar Wilde! She inspired my imagination, helped create lasting friendships, and taught me so many things about art, music, and the world beyond our classroom that have stayed with me all these years. I will always remember her with affection and gratitude. May she rest in peace.

Deepest sympathies to the Fitzgerald family and close friends on the passing of Maureen. She was a person of great integrity, knowledge and elan. I was a student of hers in Fifth and Sixth Class, everything was in place to allow us to thrive and expand our horizons. I can distinctly remember the music lessons on classical composers such as Giuseppi Verdi and Beethoven, great days indeed.

Sincere sympathy to Maureen's family and friends on her passing. It's a long time ago since I first met Maureen - Doon Boarding school in the 1950s, but Maureen was such a vibrant, talented young girl she left a lasting impression. Maureen took the lead part in many school shows and operas.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the wonderful Maureen Fitzgerald, both in Ireland and overseas. We are particularly thinking of and praying for her beloved Jacinta, Evan, Brian, Miriam, Grace, Finton, and their respective families. Maureen was a cherished loved member of the Kennedy family and an integral part of Murroe and its community.

We will always remember the lovely parcels, books, and letters she sent us across the world over the years. The brilliant and educational books she sent were all from Irish authors on topics about Irish history, geography and art, all of which showed her deep love for her culture and roots, and her sincere desire to spread the beauty of Murroe wherever she could. Many of these books still sit on our shelves, serving as testaments and reminders to her life and the pride she took in sharing it.

Sincerest sympathies to the extended Fitzgerald family and her good neighbour, the Kennedy family and to her large circle of friends on the death of Maureen, a lovely lady. Although I left Murroe over 30 years ago, I have many lovely memories of her during my 7 years there when she was Principal of Murroe NS. She was a great inspiration to many, especially her past pupils and will be greatly missed. Mass will be offered for the repose of her gentle soul.

I have so many happy memories from participating in "The Pallas Show" over the years. Maureen was an impressive musician in her own right, but she also had a wonderful gift for making space for others. In her warm way, she facilitated so many people to share their music and art and to contribute to their communities. She was a truly remarkable person.
