I spent most of my childhood Summers in Gortnacreha Kilmeedy with my late, Gandmother Molly (RIP) Aunt Ita (RIP) and Uncle Jack (RIP) and most nights looked forward going to Cahills with Uncle Jack at a time when people were closer. I knew Moss and his late parents as very warm, honorable, decent salt of the earth people. May he rest in peace in heaven with both his parents

From the Gaelic grounds to Thurles clay,
He knew the clash of ash on air,
The roar when green met Green and Gold .
He traced the heroes of his day,
He spoke in tones both soft and wise,
Of battles seen through steady eyes.
In Limericks green his heart was based,
Each final, puck out,hook and chase.
Munsters soul lived in his eyes,
A student wise a sage in guise.
Now he has gone where great ones go ,
With Ahanes Mackeys fire, Cregans flair.
But whisper Limerick on the breeze ,
And feel him stir beneath the trees.

A life well lived Maurice, a legend long lasted.Will miss our chats and his sharp intellect.A wonderful character he will be sadly missed by all his relatives and his many many friends in Athy . Maurice understood clearly that Hurling is and always will be a sport with a very rich history and tradition that has had a profound effect on sport in Ireland especially Cúige Mumhan .Requiescat in pace Maurice.

Such a lovely man who always had time for chat, along the Carlow Road, in O'Brien's or McEvoy's.

He made me feel so welcome in Athy, was sharp with a wicked sense of humour. Always made me laugh. He welcomed my citizenship and would often tease me in a playful way.

A wonderful soul. I'll miss him dearly.
