Mel Cox

My sympathies to Mary, Anne Marie, Bernie and Gerard, extended family relatives and friends. Your father Mel and late mother Mary were an exceptional couple that were great to have known down the years. I was a young Dromard lad when the late Fr Gene was my PP. So when I arrived in Athlone Mel and Mary were a couple I was delighted to meet and share in their joys and sorrows. Mel had a spark and energy that was a joy to be in his presence, whether in his home, helping in the parish, churches and not forgetting his calling out the numbers at the Parish BINGO for more than a lifetime. We were partners at cards in St. Ciaran's Hall over the years not winning much but had great enjoyment.
Your father Mel and mother Mary and Fr. Gene will forever be in my prayers as will all of you whom I have been blessed to have known and with whom there were more joys than sorrows. Fr. Charlie.

Anne-Marie, Bernie, Gerard, Mary and all the family - I hope you have huge consolation from knowing Mel was so incredibly well cared for, you were a credit to him. I’m so sorry for your loss.

Mel lived his faith, love of family and energy for life with a grace and enthusiasm that was a gift for all who knew him. Thankfully we spent lots of time together. Always the mischievous twinkle whether being grouchy or joking so you never knew which was which. Our deepest condolences to all the Cox family. Rest in peace Mel.
