We are so sorry to hear of the passing of Mr Downey, such a lovely friendly man and well respected neighbour of ours in Killala Gardens. May he rest in peace. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family at this sad time .

Very saddened to hear of Mickey's passing. An absolute gent and great character.

Back in the 80s, he got countless numbers of young lads like myself started in the St Vincents Street leagues with Killala Gardens and led us on the road to countless happy memories and lifelong friendships which is a legacy no amount of money could buy. It always makes me smile remembering him "crying" before the finals saying we had to win it for him as it was his last year and then back in the dressing room after we won he'd tell us all he was only messing and he'd be back the next year. And year after year, we'd all fall for the same line. A man way ahead of his time with the sports psychology!
