I recall having a chat with him at a checkpoint in Abbeyleix back in the early eighties. When he heard we were from Tipp, he wanted all the local news. My mothers family grew up in Glenview Square quite close to them. May he rest in peace

We are so saddened and upset to hear this news. Michael and Joan have been our friends for many many years going back to the seventies and we were frequent callers to their house going back to the times when there were married quarters attached to Portlaoise Garda Station. Michael and Joan were always so warm and engaging. Michael was a true and loyal friend in an Garda Siochana. He will be greatly missed.
