Sincere condolences to Catherine, Etain, Fiona, Lorcan and the extended Tighe and Carr families on the passing of Michael. It was with deep sadness that I learnt of Michael’s passing. I had the very great pleasure of working with Michael at Garda Headquarters. He was a mild-mannered, soft-spoken and compassionate man who believed passionately in social justice. Michael served with distinction as a Garda Sergeant, and his quest for fairness, truth and justice were hallmark of his personal and professional life. He always gave of his very best, and his kind, empathetic and caring manner endeared him to all those who had the good fortune of knowing him. He never sought the limelight or adulation. When I moved as Chief Superintendnet to Dun Laoghaire Michael called to visit me on an ongoing basis, and it is difficult to believe that we will not see his infectious smile or hear his friendly greetings again. The busy world is hushed, his fever of life is over and Michael’s work is done. “Death is not extinguishing the light; it is only putting out the lamp because the dawn has come.” Ní bheidh a leithéid ann arís. Leaba i measc na naomh go raibh aige.
My deepest condolences to Cathy, Lorcán, Étáin, Fióna and the extended Tighe family on the sad passing of your husband/father. Mick was a great friend to me over the years and was held in the highest regard by all who came in contact with him. We had many enjoyable years together in Phoenix Park and kept in close contact thereafter until illness intervened.
Mick, may you forever rest in peace
