Psych - A true original whom I met in the early 90's - it was always a pleasure to see him - delightful , witty , debonair, kind and supportive Rest in
Peace Psych . My sympathies and heart felt wishes to his family and his friends.
Like everyone, I was very sad to hear of Mike's passing. The first time I met him, he had a spiky mohawk. And the last time I saw him, he was sporting a very impressive Prussian moustache. I remember him first as a fine actor with Punchbag, in "Kiss of the Spiderwoman" and "Philadelphia, Here I Come". He then played a killer priest in my short film, "Atonement", which was perhaps not his finest moment and for that, I apologise, Mike! You were well loved amongst the arts and wider community in Galway and I'm sure you knew that. Rest in peace.
Our sincere sympathies to the Byrne family on the sad passing of Psych. A lovely guy who was always ready to help in any way, and always with a big laugh. We will miss him dearly. Rest in peace.
Psych was truly one of a kind. Every encounter with him was memorable, entertaining, enlightening and never ordinary. I only wish that he could see all the wonderful tributes paid to him. His great work, his wit and his kindness reached far and wide. He will be missed in Galway and in venues all over the city. May his gentle soul rest in peace 🕯️
I was saddened to hear of the passing of Mike, i had the pleasure of working with him for many years during my shows with Stage School and meeting again during my TY Musical. Mike always made us laugh and was always very helpful before, during and after shows; he will be fondly remembered by myself and many.
Ar Dheis Dé go raibh a anam
My deepest condolences to Mike's family and close friends. I worked and toured with him many years ago in theatre, and he was a warm, gentle, funny person with ever the twinkle in his eye. He will be sorely missed but never forgotten. Love to all. X
I was so sad to hear the news about Psych. I first met Psych in the late 80s when he moved to Galway. I later had the pleasure of working with him at Punchbag Theatre doing lighting. He was great fun to be around and I have great memories of those times. In more recent years, I enjoyed meeting him at the Town Hall. Sincere condolences to Psych’s family and many friends. His kindness, humour, and friendship will be missed. Rest in peace Psych ❤️
Deepest sympathies to Psych’s family on his sudden passing. We knew Psych from doing shows in the Town Hall & Black Box. An absolute gentleman with a wonderful sense of humour and always with a twinkle in his eye. He will be very much missed and will never be forgotten. May he rest in peace
You are at peace now and the world is mourning your loss you were a shining star taken too early from this world take care
Deepest condolences to Psych’s family and friends. I first met Psych in 1985 through my cousin Declan Sweeney, such happy memories, one of which was a hat he wore which was called Ernest. If he was ever asked why it was called Ernest, he would always say, ‘well of course it’s the importance of being earnest!’ That was my introduction to Oscar Wilde! It might be 35 years since we last met but I have never forgotten him. A special man and so sad. ♥️.
I am heartbroken to hear this news. My sincerest condolences to his family and friends. Mike was always so kind to me whenever I would meet him in the Town Hall or the Taibhdhearc. May he rest in eternal peace.
I was so sad to hear of Psyche's passing. I worked with him on many a theatre show and he was a gent, witty and excellent at his craft. It's a great loss to all those who loved him, to the arts world and Galway. Rest easy , your light will shine on, Psyche
Sincerest condolences to Mike's family. I never got the chance to work with him personally, but know that his memory will be carried on through all the wonderful stories shared by the theatre-makers of Galway. May he rest in peace
I was so sad to hear of Psych’s passing. I first met Psych in the mid 90’s in Galway when I was starting out (and he was well established and so full of knowledge). Over the years it was always a pleasure to see his name on crew sheets when in Galway. You always knew that you were in the best of hands with Psych. Irish theatre has lost someone very special – as have we all.
Condolences to all of Mike’s family and friends. Go well, my friend.
It was always a pleasure to meet Psych on the street or in the theatre, a gentleman and great fun. His lighting designs were stunning for dance shows at YBW. Sonas ort sa bhflaitheas, Psych.

I would like to wish my sincere condolences to Sinead on the loss of her brother Michael. May he rest in peace. Thinking of you all xx
Sincerest condolences to all Psychs family and friends, i knew Mike over 40 years ago in Tuam, a really nice honest, kind and witty person, he had a warmth to him, and he always brightened up any room he was in, without taking over the show. I think Mike got his wit and generosity from his dear mum, who had these qualities in abundance and who adored her beloved Mike.
Mike was a modest but incredibly honest young man, a rare diamond for sure, excellent company.
I remember asking what he wanted to work at when he was finished school, and he replied he wanted to go into advertising, he wanted to represent brand X, which he felt was being poorly represented on advertisements!, this was typical of his quick irrepressible wit, never sarcastic or nasty, and delivered with a wry smile.
God speed you on your Journey Mike, you were unique and will be missed but not forgotten. Jc
Sincere condolences to Psychs family. Hadnt met him in many years since the 90s, but always remember his kindness and the craic we all had. Great guy.
Rest easy in eternal peace
Very fond memories of working with and knowing Mike Psycho in 90s Galway. A font of knowledge and craic. Always a gent. Sympathies to all who knew and loved him. RIP
With deepest sympathy for a good friend, housemate from the Woodquay days, dungeon master extraordinaire, thespian, co-founding member of the Gear Beers, and a fellow 68 vintage. Greatly missed but never forgotten. Psych ❤️ Bro.

Deepest sympathy to Psych's daughter Louise and his brother and sisters. Psych spent most of his teenage years in our house in the Fairgreen with my son Declan. I think that is when he got the name Psych. Condolences to all his extended family and friends. His genius will be missed by all who knew him. RIP Psych.
I had the pleasure of meeting and working with Mike on my TY musical and during work experience 3 years ago, and every time I bumped into him on the Galway arts scene since then, he had always remembered my name and asked how I was. He was kind, hilarious and so hardworking and I can’t even begin to imagine how sorely he will be missed by all who knew him. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends, suaimhneas síoraí dá anam
Very sorry to hear of Psych’s death. He and I were in college together and he was a warm, friendly guy. My condolences to his family. R.I.P.
Ah Psych. Many the late night online far ranging philosophical conversation has been had over the years. Condolences to all your family and friends x
My sincere condolences to the Byrne family on the passing of Psych.
He was very good friends with my brother Declan when they were at school together in Tuam and I have very fond memories of him and the time he spent at our home. I remember for a couple of years Psych had a French exchange student called Seb who came to Tuam in the summer and both of them spent a lot of time with us. I also remember when he organised a protest at St Jarlaths school but I can't remember what it was about! He was ahead of his time as a teenager.
I also have good memories of nights out in Galway and in London.
Even though I hadn't seen Psych for a very long time I was sad to hear this news.
Rest in Peace Psych.
With Psych's passing we have lost a cornerstone in the arts community in Galway. A truly lovely, warm and generous guy.

Bless you Mike and thanks for the wonderful memories
I’ve known Psych for decades and had the great pleasure of working with him often. His was a warm presence, encouraging, helpful and so much fun. Nothing was impossible (given the time!) and his professionalism brought such quality to everything he worked on. He loved to play. That’s what I’ll miss most. His sense of play. Surrounded by and intrinsic to Galway’s arts community, Psych really got the memo. I’ll miss the playing.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh d’anam a shean chara.
Love, strength and peace to his family and to those who knew and loved him.
Ní bheidh a leithead arís ann.

Such a loss to so many. The Galway theatre scene has lost a keystone. I hadn't seen Psych in a long time, but his loss is huge. He was so generous with his time and talents, and goodnatured throughout.

I can't think of a more ironic name than 'Psycho' for Psycho. He was neither psychopathic nor psychotic in any way, shape or form. He was a measure of calm in most situations and a gentle and empathic soul always. I don't know how he got the sobriquet, but it was like calling a giant 'Tiny' or calling a bald man 'Curly'. There was something about the hilarity of that that really suited his character, because he was, more than anything else a hilariously funny ffff....man. Psycho was one of those people it was impossible to be mad at, and whose whimsical nature was totally infectious and uplifting. We spent a lot of time hanging out in Punhbag days and he was always great fun to be around. So, this one saddens me a lot. Wherever you are now my friend, may the gods go with you. See you in Valhalla
I remember Psych fondly during a brilliant time in the 90’s Galway theatre scene. Always a twinkle in his eye and always warm and friendly. Condolences to his family and friends. RIP.

Will miss his indomitable, brilliant humour and positive energy and that huge smile. I don't believe I ever heard him utter a negative word. Happy travels Mike. "Going dark!"
