Bandon Girl Guides have had a long relationship with the Howe family. Many members will have experienced the joy of camping in Howe's field. The welcome we received from Millicent and Dick was exceptional. If we forgot anything we only had to run up to the house and it was provided. We camped in rain, fog, fierce heat but only remember the baking provided by Millicent and the chats. A woman of great wisdom and fun that she passed on to her beloved daughters. In our Guiding world we say "Millicent our faithful friend is gone home"

Dear Libby, Avril, Rhoda, Myrtle, Zenia & Olive,

Sincere condolences from your American cousins. Your mother's hospitality for us visitors from afar was legendary, and we treasure the many memories: her sharing tea and stories and laughs while we sat around the kitchen table at Riverdale House; serving her unbelievably delicious oatmeal for breakfast (Olive swore that the local water was the key ingredient) and proudly introducing us to new baby Eve; memories of devouring hearty stew with Ger & field hocky tales and then off to West Cork equine center with Ingrid & Victoria. Your mum was a wealth of knowledge as we drove the local lanes and explored family history. Although small in stature, she was a towering indomitable force, not to be denied in our genealogy pursuits, oft with a touch of mischief and fun and adventure. We cannot express our gratitude enough for her innumerable kindnesses. We will greatly miss her. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with you and your families during this difficult time.

I have so many fond memories of spending weekends at Riversdale, my home away from home when i was in BGS, Millie was always welcoming in the warm kitchen. The kettle was on and some baking just out of the oven and she would be telling stories with her great sense of humour and sharp wit! She loved her family.
I will be thinking of each of you in the coming days weeks and months as you adjust to life without Millie, but i know she is watching over you all. RIP
