Sincere Condolences.
I have been coming to Castleblaney for 20 years and invariably meet Mindszenty about 3-4 times a year. His work on the park and for the people of Castleblaney is singularly impressive. My first meeting with him was by way of introduction in Dignam's where I found out he had a fantastic collection of money from all over the world. When I showed interest in it he made it his business to bring it into the bar the next time I was down and to tell me the story behind the notes and coins in his collection. I found ti amazing that every coin and note in his collection was really just a reminder to him of a story and a friend and an opportunity to share his memories of friends travels all over the world. He will be missed by many including myself and my wife Annette.
Sincere condolences to the Finnegan family especially his sister-in -law Pauline and family on the death of Mindszenty, may his gentle soul now rest in eternal peace. You are all in our thoughts at this sad time.
It was with great sadness that I learned of Mindszenty's passing. My kids and I love his park and during COVID it was invaluable when they were young. On days when Mindszenty was there himself which he often was there was such great excitement seeing first and then chatting away to the man who built his own play park with his bare hands. Mindszenty was always great with the kids and away from the park he was such an interesting and grounded person. A truly great Blayney community man who leaves us a wonderful legacy. Ar dheis Dé go raibh Mindszenty.

We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Mindszenty Finnegan. He was a devoted Blayney man who worked tirelessly to improve the town and locality of which he was intensely proud. Be it in the Tidy Towns, helping to clear the Formal and Walled Gardens at the castle and to restore the Ice-house, he was always ready, willing and able to pitch in and assist in every way.
Whenever you met him he had a photo or paper cutting in an inside coat pocket to show you and chat about.
He was truly a man of the people and for the people. To quote the first few lines of my poem about the Faughs:
"You cannot box or bottle it or hold it in your hand,
But pride of race and love of place inspire and make a man"

So sorry to hear of the sad passing of Mindszenty Finnegan a former neighbour and one of Blayney's best known citizens. Mindszenty was so well known in his native Castleblayney, having been a postman in the town for over forty years and was the proud possessor of a first name that few could forget. Mindszenty was more of a doer than a talker. Mindszenty will be remembered for the many many years he spent painstakingly reclaiming and extending the lakeside area in Lake View. It was an unofficial playing pitch, where many a football battle was fought among neighbours and friends, and Mindszenty was often at the heart of it. In recognition of the voluntary work he did there it was fittingly and officially named Mindszenty Park. In Mindszenty Park he leaves a proud legacy. As well as the voluntary work he did there he most recently worked on creating a beautiful garden area in what is local referrred to as the Bog Road. Also a great soccer fan he was a committed worker for the local Blayney Rovers FC and when he was not engaged there he was often to be found in the local library where he devoted a lot of time to the local history of his beloved Castleblayney.
Our deepest sympathy is extended to his sisters Molly and Rose and to his sister-in-law Pauline Finnegan and her family who cared for him so well in his final illness. Sympathy also to the extended Finnegan family and Mindszenty's neighbours and friends. May he rest in peace.
Condolences to all the Finnegan Families & Relatives & Friends on the very sad passing of Mindszenty , He was a true gentleman and a great character he will be truly missed around Castleblayney,Rest in eternal peace Mindszenty.🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
