Monsignor Sean Flynn

I worked for Msgr Flynn at St Joseph’s in Toms River. He was truly a pastoral priest, ready to help anyone no matter what their problem was. Everyone loved him there.

I first met Fr John when he was a student in St Patrick's College, Carlow and he visited our home on many occasions. He returned our hospitality when i visited him in New Jersey with my brother. He was a humble, sincere priest with a great sense of humor and a welcome for everyone. Well done good and faithful servant. Rest in Peace.

My deepest sympathy to the Flynn family and all the relatives and friends of Msgr Sean . We spent the years 1975-1982 in the same diocese,Trenton NJ before our diocese was split in two and I ended up in the new diocese of Metuchen NJ. We met at special events occasionally and especially at the annual Super Bowl party where Msgr Sean was the life of the party. I offered mass for him Monday morning November 24 before I heard of his passing and again this morning November 27 for the repose of his soul. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by the Irish contingent of priests here in NJ and by the many people he has loved and served so generously as a great priest

We were two Lithuanian families who arrived in the United States in 1998. Only three months after coming to this country—without language, without community, and knowing no one—our family faced unimaginable tragedy when my cousin’s three-and-a-half-year-old daughter was killed in a car accident. Not knowing where to turn, we went to our neighborhood church, St. Joseph’s.

It was there that Monsignor Flynn met us.

In that darkest moment, he was like a saint sent to guide us. He brought peace into our grief, stood beside us, prayed with us, and helped us walk through a time we could not have endured alone. From that day forward, he remained a spiritual anchor in our lives.

As the years went on, our children were born here, and it was Monsignor who drew us into the heart of the parish. His presence was radiant. His homilies were sincere and filled with God’s grace. He inspired us—gently but powerfully—to do good, to become better, and to grow in faith.

Monsignor Flynn made this world a better place through his kindness, his wisdom, and the love he shared so freely. He planted God’s seeds in so many hearts, including ours.

Thank you, Monsignor, for everything.

I’m so sorry and sad to hear about the passing of Monsignor Flynn. He was the Monsignor of my elementary and high schools. He was a wonderful man who was always joyful. He was deeply loved by our community. He will always be fondly remembered.

Monsignor Flynn (Father Sean) blessed me with all of my sacraments but taught so much more than a blessing.
He showed up- always noting his Mother’s name matching mine and his matching my brother.
Most recently (feels like yesterday), he showed up for my Nanna’s funeral. It was January 2020, cold and gray. We expected it to be a small mass with a private burial and should not have been surprised when he appeared and let the local pastor know he would be the one performing the mass. It was a gift I don’t know if we knew we needed, but his familiar lilt gave comfort, honor and blessing to our matriarch.,
His memory is a blessing and he has certainly had a grand welcome to heaven.
