Mort or Morty as my Dad always called him was very kind to us O’Donoghues as children and young teens. I was very shy and half afraid of the ‘Free State’ part of the route to town. I loved when Morty was out and he’d shout out hello and it always made me feel like I was ok. Eugene and I loved the years of the shop and l recall the novelty of getting to make a phone call from there, with the old public phone with buttons A & B.
