A gentleman and a brilliant teacher who sought to bring out the best in all his students. I'll always remember Noel as a kind teacher who always went that extra step to encourage his students. I was an avid reader and Noel always encouraged me by allowing me to take extra books from the school library to read at home and also willing to recommend books I could borrow in the local library that would expand my knowledge. A great teacher of history he shone so brilliantly in passing down all his expert knowledge to us. We are so lucky to have his wonderful publications that allow us to pass on that knowledge for generations to come. An incredible gentleman who will be a big loss to our parish.

We in Shinrone NS were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our former principal, Noel.
He made an enormous contribution to the life of the school and to the education of many generations of students.
Noel was principal for 38 years from 1959 to 1997.
His passion for history and his great commitment to the GAA enriched school life for so many. We were honoured to welcome him back as part of our 50th celebrations in November 2026, where his presence meant so much to our school community.
His school museum of historical artefacts is just part of the legacy he has left to us in Shinrone NS.

His history books on Shinrone adorn my bookshelf and are referred to frequently.
