Oliver (Ollie) Peter Murphy

I only found out today that Ollie had passed.

He was lovely, gentle man who lived life to the full despite being in a wheelchair for many years.

I marvelled at the way he was able to go for a swim in the Irish sea aided and abetted by his wife Christine.

My deepest sympathy to Christine, Suzy, Ally, and the Murphy family . I went to school with Ollie in Pres. Glasthule and we met in Sandycove and Glasthule down through the years, I even got to visit aboard ship in Galway which was wonderful . Most recently, I got to visit with Ollie in Blackrock Hospice, without realising that he would soon pass. Ollie, you were kind and charismatic and great company, Rest in Peace with the Angels .. 🕯️🕯️🕯️

I was so sorry to hear of Ollie's passing and may I extend my deepest sympathies to his family and all his friends. Ollie and I sat together in junior classes in Pres Glasthule so so long ago and were the best of boyhood friends. God bless you Ollie Murphy. Thank you.

I met both Ollie and Christine when we were working in their home ,and immediately was met by friendliness and decency from both .
Over the job Ollie would always be smiling and engaged in casual
chat and was an absolute pleasure to work for .
If all clients were as nice there'd be no trouble in the world .

It was such a privilege to know and sail with Ollie. Not only was he fantastic Cook, he was also such a wonderful character, nothing was too much trouble to Ollie, he had a heart of gold and he was the heart and soul of the Celtic Voyage, keeping us nourished with his food and banter. Always a thorough gentleman. He will be sorely missed by all who were lucky enough to know him.
We are so sorry we are out of the country and not able to attend Ollie's funeral, you are all very specially in our thoughts.

My husband tommy, worked for many years on both ships, where ollie cooked wonderful meals , he was a very special gentleman to all who knew him.i am honoured that i am one of those people. I'm so sorry to hear about Ollies passing. He was a true character, always smiling, always ready with a story or a bit of craic. As cook on the Celtic Voyager and the Lough Beltra, he looked after us all, not just with his meals but with his warmth and good humour. He had an uncanny way of knowing just what you could stomach when the sea turned rough, and somehow made even the worst days feel a little easier. He’ll be deeply missed.

Ollie was such a friendly and supportive man. Always had time to talk.

So sad to hear of Ollie’s passing he was such a lovely guy, one of life’s great people, always great company very friendly and how he looked after everyone board with his lovely food at all times of the day and into the night! My thoughts go out to his family during this saddest of times.

Chris, Ally and Suzy - I was heartbroken for you all when I heard the news that lovely Ollie had passed away. From the day I moved in next door in Devitt Villas, and then around the corner you were all always such lovely neighbours. I looked forward to bumping into Ollie with his beaming smile for a chat whenever I bumped into him (even if our dogs weren't too fond of each other!), and in recent years that was when he was flying along the seafront or down the pier on his four wheels. Right now there's not much anyone can say to ease your pain, but know that he meant a lot to so many people, touched so many lives, and will be remembered fondly. Sending you all lots of love and heartfelt condolences.
