Sincere sympathy to the Leonard family at this sad time. It was a pleasure to have known and worked for such a gentleman. May Paddy’s gentle soul rest in peace.

It’s so nice to read all the comments reflecting the affection with which Paddy was held. Paddy was so welcoming to birdwatchers who would come snooping around his yard. I thoroughly enjoyed each visit to see the long term restoration of his beloved tractor come to fruition. Its red and yellow livery adding a splash of colour to the roads of Cape in summer as visitors got a unique tour of the island. Affectionately known by some as Paddy the Post he broke records in the time it took to complete his round due to the banter along the way. My sympathies to Seán, Eileen and all the Leonards. He too was a golden thread in the fabric of island life.

Deepest condolences to Nellie, Sean and extended families on the passing of Paddy. My first time on Cape Clear as a youngster was at his auntie Frances funeral. Afterwards the story telling of past times and island life. May his gentle soul rest in peace.

I am so sorry to hear of Paddy’s passing. I first knew Paddy in the 1970s when I stayed in the newly built Tir no nOg when I attended the Irish college with Cólaiste Ciarán. I stayed there a few summers. What a lovely man. Even though he would be very busy he would take time to chat with us kids. He always had a big smile. I remember calling to the post office to phone home occasionally. We would walk by the Post Office daily, across the mass pass to the Coláiste. I have visited Cape many times since then. I would often bump into Paddy and we had many chats. On one occasion when I was camping on the south harbour it rained intensely. Paddy being the generous man that he was offered me a room in the house at Tir na nOg. The world was certainly a better place with him in it and I am privilaged to have known him. Deepest sympathy to all of Paddy’s family at this sad time. RIP.

Chomhbhrón do Nellie, Sean, Eileen, Tríona, Emer, Helen & Fionn agus chlann Ui Líonáin go léir ar bhás Paddy. Paddy was a great neighbour to us as a family especially my mam, always cheerful. Lovely memories from when we were small going to P.O to collect pensions, to giving me, and many, many others our first job in Tír na nÓg. A genuinely decent man. Rest in peace Paddy.
