My great commiserations to the family of Peggy. Unsurprisingly, I can see that she was an exemplary teacher. In the early 1950s Peggy Thornton was an exemplary student at St Patrick's Secondary School, a small co-ed school established by James Dore in Glin, Co Limerick, in the mid-20th century with a catchment in West Limerick and North Kerry. She was a member of a small group of students who saw out our adolescence there and out of those the great majority - eight - who stayed the course as far as the Leaving Cert, seven got 'the call' to become teachers. If memory serves me correctly, Peggy cycled a distance of some nine meals to and from the area of Athea every day and what a hill she had to surmount at the start of her journey home every day while we softies from Tarbert (some five of us) had a mere 4 miles to contend with each way. Of course Tim was born and bred in Tarbert and I seem to recall that they met each other first in Clounmacon N.S. when Peggy was appointed as Assistant Teacher there. Sorry to hear of peggys passing

Deepest sympathy to the O'Brien family on the loss of their beloved Mother and Grandmother and to Peggy’s siblings, uncle Myles, aunt Bridie and my Mother Mary. Aunt Peggy and her husband Tim touched so many lives in so many positive ways. Very thankful for the pleasure of their company as they would often make the long car trip to Kerry with family in tow. Peggy and Tim were the very best and will be missed.
